In Georgetown British Guiana a terrorist bomb inside the People's Progressive Party headquarters narrowly missed injuring Janet Jagan wife of Premier Cheddi Jagan. Michael Forde a party worker died trying to remove the device. A second blast at Gimpex killed Edward Griffith. Thirteen people were injured eight hospitalized. Police used tear gas to break up crowds as security tightened around Georgetown amid racial violence blamed on a sugar cane labor dispute between East Indians and Negroes.
Washington AP reports the ice cream cone was created in 1904 at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St Louis by Syrian concessionaire W M Hamwi. He folded sugar wafles into a cone to hold ice cream, solving dish shortages and sparking a nationwide treat.
