War Toll Highest in 6 Weeks

The AP reports the past week saw 29 American, 238 South Vietnamese, and 1,103 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong killed in action. U.S. deaths include nine nonhostile and 179 wounded. South Vietnamese casualties total 514 wounded. Casualty totals now stand at 45,373 Americans killed in action and 300,692 wounded, plus 758,499 enemy killed. In Mekong Delta, U Minh forest clash left 19 North Vietnamese/Viet Cong dead. Laos plans a major command shakeup shifting power to Prince Boun Oum’s faction. FBI to Investigate Policeman Murders By Request

FBI Director J Edgar Hoover announced agents will investigate police killings when local agencies request help. No such requests have been made yet since the policy shift last month following White House talks.
