Handley High snow schedule shifts exams to tomorrow

House Burns Near Shawnee. Furniture Saved
A two story frame house near Shawnee burned to the ground today but most furniture was saved. Mr and Mrs Robert Davis lived there on Route 600 near Route 50, Melvin Nail owner. Firemen from four companies arrived about 6 30 a m and saved all but beds. No insurance on the building. Allen Reid and Don Kelchner of Round Hill Fire Company answered the alarm.

Dr. Ancell B. Groves Dies. Winchester Plant Pathologist
Dr. Ancell Byron Groves, 61, plant pathologist at the Winchester Fruit Research Laboratory, died suddenly at home from a heart attack. Born April 17, 1904 in Lebanon Missouri, he held degrees from Oklahoma A. and M. College and West Virginia University and worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture before joining the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station.
