Would-be Cop Had Stand-ins Take His Exams
DETROIT January 27. Tony Rea, trying for five of his 23 years to join the Detroit police, was accused of hiring two stand-ins to take his physical and mental tests. Both stand-ins reportedly passed with high marks, and police say they uncovered the ruse after a sudden rise in Rea's written exam rating.

George W. Riley 84 a Winchester merchant and church leader died at his home from age related causes. Born in Hampshire County West Virginia he taught school before becoming an assessor and merchant. He moved to Winchester 1919 and helped run a family business with his son and Leonard Riley until retirement. He organized Cork Street Christian Church and served as elder and song leader. He was married twice and survived by six daughters and three sons.

March of Dimes Poster Boy Avbett Williams Honored
Eleven year old J Avbett Williams of Northwestern Grade is honorary chairman of the children division of Winchester and county March of Dimes campaigns. He contracted polio at age two but remains active in school and sports while awaiting an ankle operation. He thanks the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis and urges nickel giving to ensure polio patients receive care.
