Nelson F. Richards will be director general of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester this spring. The festival executive committee announced the appointment after a meeting held yesterday afternoon in the Harpers Ferry area, indicating Richards’ willingness to serve.
The meeting proclaimed Mr. Richards the sole candidate for director general and elected a finance committee with H D Robinson D E Stultz William Beverley and Clifford Grim as treasurer. Richards, tied to his brothers in fruit operations, has led parade directing for five years, showing executive skill.
The Allied Arts Players presented What Every Woman Knows at Handley Handley School Auditorium to a representative audience. The production featured a highly capable cast with a plot about a wife guiding a husband into politics and a humorous riddle about what every woman knows.

A blaze at the Fair Grounds racing plant in New Orleans burned two barns, killing 15 horses. Apprentice jockey Wilfred May, 19, suffered serious burns along with stableman J W Smith and Phil Catman who had lighter injuries. Police traced the blaze to an overheated oil stove in H B Reether's stable.
J D Sein assistant manager of the Audley race horse farm said this afternoon none of the horses burned in the New Orleans fire were from Audley in Clarke County. He confirmed the farm did not suffer any losses.

Raymond Alsberry, about 21, confessed to Police Chief Derey that robbery was his motive for an attack on Miss Margaret Evans near 9:30 PM. He claimed hunger and unemployment, denied premeditation, and said the plan was not prearranged. A suspect was jailed after being named by a witness and is held at police headquarters for identification.
