Robert Pines a 19 year old Black man was arrested at his home near Happy Creek in Front Royal Va after the hit and run death of Nettie Wood 47 or 48. The body lay on the Happy Creek highway and showed signs of dragging. Authorities say Pines admitted hitting something though he believed it was a dog and expect to hold him for the grand jury.

Italian veterans sent back World War II era French medals in a wave sparked by Franco-Italian tensions. Bridges opposed Murphy, Brown supported Michigan's ex governor, and Neely led the confirmation motion. Hopkins faced strong opposition from Bridges as Secretary of Commerce nominees move forward.

The chief symptom is heavy sighing that drains carbon dioxide from the blood leading to heart tremors spasms and pain until the patient gains a new partner or resolves worries such as stock losses or unpaid bills.
Mrs John Hay Whitney returns from Hollywood where she studied motion picture technique with a goal of a horse picture. She did not test for Gone With The Wind but plans to stay at Llangollen until a suitable contract arrives, with an expert saying her riding skill may lead to a featured horse role.
President Roosevelt urged renewed House committee attention to two New Deal era plans the Florida ship canal and a Passamaquoddy Bay tidal power project. He cited finished surveys for the canal and proposed cross border cooperation with Canada to study a small experimental plant on the U S side.
Zone C Group 3 of the Virginia Bankers Association held a bi monthly dinner meeting in Woodstock Virginia with bankers from Jenick Clarke Warren Shenandoah and Page counties. France opened a new phase in naval armament by launching a 35,000-ton super battleship at Brest and laying the keel for another. The ceremonies underscored Paris effort to counter Italian colonial pressure and safeguard Mediterranean routes.
WPA administrator Col. F C Harrington opposes House relief provisions limiting political activity and urges an $875 million appropriation to operate WPA through June 30. House cut to $725 million. The Thanksgiving snow measured eight and a half inches with .92 inch precipitation, but last week’s snow carried more moisture at 1.14 inches though only seven inches deep. The November snow remains the deepest since January 1920 1936 when 10 inches fell. Ice coated roads persisted and highway crews worked to remove it while city workers cleared ice from Loudoun Street. Thawing worsened driving in areas such as Boscawent east of Loudoun with deep ruts hindering steering.
City Manager Arthur M. Field returned from Chicago where as vice-president he attended the Executive Board meeting of the International City Managers Association. Field was elected to the vice-presidency at the annual meeting held last September.
