Castro denounced splits in communism and urged Latin American masses to rise in revolution. He urged revolutionary leaders to mobilize for combat while noting possible peaceful transition, and framed unity with Marxism Leninism against imperialism.
Harvard University announced that in September the Harvard Business School will admit women to its two year MBA program for the first time. The move marks a historic expansion of coeducation at the flagship business school in Boston.

Claris sa Hovey Thomson widow of Elihu Thomson founder of General Electric Co. died Monday at Beverly Massachusetts. She was 87 and survived by family members and relatives in the area. The news notes her late husband’s role in GE and marks the passing of a member of the Thomson family.
