Former Prime Minister Anthony Eden died peacefully at his southern England country home at age 79 after a brief illness. The lengthy statesman, who helped shape British policy in the 1930s and led during the Suez Crisis, was elevated to Earl of Avon in 1961 and survived by his second wife Clarissa and one son. He had recently spent winter in Florida with Averell Harriman and was flown home for burial in Britain.
