Frederick County deputies reported two Rt. 11 businesses north of Winchester were entered between midnight and 6:30 a.m. A Jumping establishment near Winchester lost $20 and about six cartons of cigarettes after the jukebox and pinball machines were forced open. Oak Grove Restaurant north of Winchester was entered between 11:15 p.m. and 9 a.m. A box and cash register were broken into and about $5 collected, with six carloads of cigarettes also reported missing.

Chinese Red Pilot Killed in Freedom Bid
An ailing Chinese Communist pilot defected to Nationalist China and died in a crash landing of his MIG 1e fighter on Formosa.
