Early Expects Large Increase In Income Tax
Richmond January 11 N B Early Jr collector of internal revenue for the Virginia district estimates at least 210000 income tax returns will be filed this year doubling last year’s total. He urges taxpayers needing help to visit the Richmond office or a field office as soon as possible. The force will be slightly increased to handle the anticipated rise caused by changes in filing requirements notably the 10 percent defense tax which is 10 percent of the income tax due. The 1940 revenue act requires returns from married individuals with gross income of 2000 or more and single filers with gross income of the same threshold.
