Truck Driver Held in Slaying of Youth near Ephrata

A 23 year old truck driver is held on murder charges after the hammer killing of 19 year old Robert R Hackman. Hackman was found dead beside his car on a mountain road near Ephrata. State Police say the suspect, an acquaintance, signed a statement admitting the killing during a dispute over a girl. The victim’s father Charlee Hackman pastors a nearby farm community.

The Supreme Court up held the federal anti spy law convictions of Hafis Salich a former naval intelligence worker in San Pedro California and Mikhail Gorin a Soviet citizen in Los Angeles a tourist firm employee. Justice Reed wrote the opinion. Salich allegedly solicited naval data in 1938 and received about 1700 dollars amid tensions between Japan and Russia.

About 200 persons from Frederick Clarke Warren Page and Shenandoah counties attended the Shenandoah Production Credit Association annual meeting in Sarah Zane Hall with a United Brethren Church luncheon.
