Rev Dr J W Duffy, former pastor of the Southern Methodist church in Winchester, has been confined to his Alexandria home by illness for three weeks. His condition is much improved but he was not well enough to lead the union prayer services at Washington Street Methodist Church South last night.

In a police court this morning Magistrate F H Krebs ruled against the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in the suit Carl Kneeling vs B and O. The judgment awards $80.15 plus $3 costs. The B and O was represented by local attorney R Gray Williams, the plaintiff by Joseph B Newlin.
The Winchester and Martinsburg Turnpike Company held its annual meeting with the old board re elected W R Stephenson J W Riley M J Hardesty Daniel W Lupton and Scott Grant. Directors then met and elected Captain J K McCann president and Charles R McCann secretary and treasurer. William E Branton resigned as secretary and treasurer and his resignation was accepted.
Jolliffe and Sewell announce a new garage at Boyce Virginia offering accessories and repair work for all cars. The ad notes hours from 7 to 1 and 61 likely indicating a date or code.
The Rouss Hook and Ladder Company elected officers for the ensuing year. Captain Thomas P. Graybeal. lieutenants L. Lester Ritter and H. C. Grubb. secretary J. B. Daniel. assistant secretary William Haites. treasurer L. H. Ritter. recorder L. D. Grubb. chaplain E. F. Lanhan. surgeon Dr. Walter Cox. janitor A. D. Custer. The recorder reports fourteen fire alarms answered since new apparatus was in use, with valuable service in each case.
The Ford peace party arrived in Holland from Copenhagen by a German paased route and were accorded courteous treatment by the Germans. Also reported is the German note on the sinking of the William P Frye and a final settlement of submarine controversies with the Central Powers.
In New York on January 8 a New Haven Railroad conspiracy jury had no verdict by state hour. Jurors have considered evidence since yesterday afternoon and remain sequestered. Several millionaire defendants attended court off and on as the jury requested additional exhibits.

Thomas Price alias Tow Dowd, captured asleep at Ben Cilne’s home near Stephenson, was taken to Berryville then turned over to federal officers. He faces four or five indictments for postoffice robberies in North Carolina and will likely be tried in Statesville US District Court. The removal was ordered last evening and carried out by A J Tavenner Lewis Armel John T Noonan and D W McKwee. Train No 1 of the Norfolk and Western transported him from Berryville at 2 27 this morning.
The Charley Rouss Fire Company annual meeting elected officers for the upcoming year. John H. Seal Jr. reelected president. New/returning officers include R T Barton Jr Douglas Brown W E Huntsberry Dr J E Noonan E C Hottel H H Hable Rev Dr Je He Lacy Dr B Stuart T R Cather Harry Mareh Teemu Anderson and others. The executive committee later chose John Dunn as driver and building superintendent.
The twentieth annual convention will be held in Charlottesville on January 12 and 13 with President T. N. Thompson of Harrisonburg presiding and William P. Massey of Winchester as secretary. Frederick county surveying instruments and other tools were destroyed when a Wadesville Clarke county fire wiped out the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad store early yesterday. The gear valued over 100 dollars belonged to County Superintendent of Roads Charles J Schenck, left at the Pidgeon store awaiting pickup.

A second conspiracy to blow up the Iron and Steel plant prompted swift troop deployment and mediation seeks arbitration.
The Navy Secretary was instructed to issue a public report by a unanimous vote concerning Rear Admiral Fletcher, commander of the Atlantic Fleet, dated August 16, 1915, which warned that a foreign nation could land troops on American shores. The secretary received the entire report but withheld contents to prevent aiding foreign powers.
