Nurses Arthur and Dean logged 426 visits in December covering prenatal, postnatal, infants and school children while handling four typhoid, two scarlet fever, 12 measles and one tuberculosis cases. over 125 families received Christmas baskets through Eagles and church groups. toys supplied by Girls' Athletic Association. clinics planned for January with Dr C W Scott and Dr C B Smith.

Hunger motive blamed for Step Hens burglary confession
Carl Samson admitted breaking into the William Branner store at Relief late Tuesday night claiming hunger and family hardship. Officers say he entered through a window, stole groceries tobacco and a shotgun and forced gasoline from a pump. Much merchandise was recovered and he was ordered held for the circuit court grand jury.

Bobbitt's Body To Be Taken To Virginia Home
The body of Lieut. E. H. Bobbitt Jr., 24, was brought to Elkins West Virginia from Cheat mountain where his army plane crashed on Christmas day. Preparations were made to move the body to Hot Springs Virginia later today. The fire followed the crash but officials say he was killed by the crash itself. The throttle was wide open and his watch stopped at 1 10 p m. He left Uniontown Pennsylvania shortly after noon Christmas day.

Spates dies at 77 after Clarke County mercantile work
Thomas P. Spates former Winchester merchant dies at his Briggs Clarke County home after five months of illness and a prior leg fracture. He operated a grain elevator for the Cumberland Valley Railroad in Hagerstown to Winchester before moving to Briggs in 1908. He is survived by his widow Annie Fields two daughters Mamie L. Spates and Mrs C B Feagans two sons Jetson F. Spates and Thomas H. Spates a sister Estelle Harris and other relatives. Funeral will be held Saturday at Briggs with interment in Hebron Cemetery in Winchester.

Priest Led Unemployed Army Seeks Jobs in Nation’s Capital
Father James R. Cox of Pittsburgh led more than 10,000 jobless in an orderly march to Washington to petition Congress and President Hoover for work and relief. No police violence occurred as the group gathered at the Capitol and later met with the White House to deliver their plea. Over 10,000 were fed by rolling kitchens from Fort Myer before marching to the Capitol, while 571 stragglers continued to Pittsburgh on trucks with coffee and sandwiches for the hungry.
