Rev Steele Heads Star Leadership Awards Group

Rev Steele leads the Star Leadership Awards Committee for 1963 with Miss Steele as chair. The awards, valued up to 350 dollars, honor three senior students from Handley James Wood and Clarke County High Schools for outstanding character and leadership. Committee includes Mrs Hunter Gaunt Jr Burton B Mercer J A Williford Ray Boshen Hammer B Pierce George G Snarr Jr Fred L Glaize II and Harry F Byrd Jr who founded the program in 1954. Miss Steele a Virginia Conference pastor formerly trained as a nurse and teacher, recalls missionary years and Red Cross service.

Winchester concert by Inter Community Assn features Michel Jock

Members of the Winchester Inter-Community Concert Association host the second in a series this Monday in Shenandoah College and Conservatory Auditorium at 8 15 p.m. Pianist Michel Jock will perform as part of the program amid a forecast of snow or rain and cloudy weather. CHICAGO AP Rogers Hornsby Hall of Fame slugger died of heart disease in Wesley Memorial Hospital at age 66. 102-Year-Old Rockingham Woman Dies

ELKTON AP A 102-year-old Rockingham woman, Alban Elizabeth Brown, died yesterday at her family home near Rockingham, eleven days before her 103rd birthday. She was born to slave parents and recalled her family hiding food from the Yankees during the Civil War. She outlived 14 of her 17 children.
