Six Cars Damaged In New Year Accidents
Six cars in Frederick and Clarke counties since December 31 suffered damage estimated at 1500 by State Trooper E. B. Mitchell. No serious injuries were reported. Wholesale prices rise eighth straight week in postwar index

Swisher testified before the West Virginia Public Service Commission on Potomac Edison plans to buy 2.7 million dollars in Northern Virginia Power stock to start a 132000 volt line from Riverton Virginia to Cumberland Maryland. The line would cross Hampshire and Mineral counties to carry surplus from a 6.5 million dollar Riverton plant and tie with Winchester lines serving Berkeley and Jefferson counties. Schuman Wins Test Vote in Paris Assembly
Paris January 3 Premier Robert Schuman won a test vote in the National Assembly on a Communist United front effort to modify the anti inflation bill. The 322 to 262 result upheld the government backed amendment dealing with small shop keepers and craftsmen taxation. Schuman called a confidence vote on five more amendments and said he would resign if the article were not adopted as submitted. The decision postponed further voting until Monday.

Marines Sail to Bolster Midway Group in Mediterranean
