The council met past ten, with a quorum finally. Reports showed December receipts of 14,433 and December licenses of 21.50. The city seeks tax segregation relief from Richmond and endorses omps aid. condemnation of Bell and Miller properties to widen Water Street awaits damages.
W. S. Carter argues unions resist suppression of free speech during strikes and portrays government conscription of workers via labor actions as a draft without selective service. He claims unions expel members who criticize strikes and urges readers to consider grievances within organized labor.
Last night opposition to the ordinance surfaced as Mr Gray proposed hiring a competent architect to report on fire escapes and consulting the Richmond labor department. An amendment by Mr Goss ordered the gallery closed when open until fire escapes are installed and a resolution was adopted to have the city manager pursue action on violators.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Samuel Triplett who died yesterday from a complication of diseases will be held at 11.40 o clock tomorrow morning at the chapel of Christ Protestant Episcopal Church with Rev. Dr. W. D. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hebron Cemetery. Martinsburg travelers take the Mid day bus at 1 pm from Hotel Evans.
