Belgian police used machineguns sabers and rifle butts to disperse a 50 000 strong prison protest in Brussels near the Parliament area. At least 20 injured many trampled as demonstrators clashed with mounted police and gendarmes after attempts to breach police lines.
Washington reports the Agriculture Department discounting talk of dollar pork chops predicting housewives will resist price hikes. Officials say hog prices reflect seasonal declines in marketable animals and may ease, with costs for beef eggs and dairy already down. Cattle slaughter could push prices lower in late 1947 while sugar may rise if OPA funds are not restored.

Workmen from Brunswick cleared a snowbound Baltimore and Ohio train trapped in McCann's Cut near Stephenson last Saturday. Drifts reached 14 feet in the 400-foot cut, and by Monday morning the engine and cars were dug free. Passengers were moved by bus to Winchester after a freight helped pull the passenger coach back to Stephenson.
