Former Colored Leader Henry Bartlett Dies in Presmonta
Henry Bartlett a prominent colored barber of North Market street Winchester died last evening from double pneumonia after a three week illness. Born and raised here he followed his father the late Henry Bartlett a famed Confederate era barber who served generals. The younger Bartlett aged about sixty leaves a widow and two sisters. He was a noted political leader among his people, wielding influence over local colored voters before disfranchisement reduced their political clout. A public speaker of considerable power he was respected by white residents and active in local politics. Funeral arrangements will be announced.
