Heavy snow slid from the Handley School auditorium roof triggering a fall that smashed a skylight in the gallery of History and Art. Estimated damage ranges from two to three hundred dollars with repairs to be made promptly and no danger to students.
The Sarah Zane Eire Company minstrel show received a banquet hosted by firemen at their North Main hall. Caterer James N Moling oversaw a fine menu. Capt. Robert E L Gray served as toastmaster with remarks by Capt. Harry H Willis, Henry F Seal, Roland Ryan, and others. Claire Dotterer received a wrist watch for directing the performance at the Colonial Theater.
Announcement of the birth of a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Martin at their Milton West Virginia home. Mrs Martin formerly Miss Esther Seabright, daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Seabright of this city. Mother has been visiting and is expected to return Saturday.
Mrs. W. I. Hicks and her children with the former's sister left last evening for Washington to join Mr. Hicks who is said to be employed in a cabin business there. Mr. Hicks previously ran an automobile business in Winchester and came from North Carolina.
A music recital is planned at United Brethren Church on Friday at 8 P M with refreshments available for purchase. The notice invites attendees to come and enjoy the program.
Solomon G Racey long time resident of Shenandoah County died at his home near Star Tannery after a protracted diabetes illness. He was 74 and survived by his widow Emma Santmyer and several children. Funeral at St James Lutheran Church with burial in the church graveyard. He was a farmer known for his kindness and faithful member of St Johns Lutheran.
A conference of about 100 officers and representatives from Maryland Virginia West Virginia and the District of Columbia met to discuss commercial problems. Three sessions were scheduled but the morning session was cut short by a snowstorm. Speakers included Maj J Franklin Bell Douglass Burnett Simon J Block H B Potter Maj Ezra B Whitman J W Lynch Henry Holzapfel R Gray Williams and John J Jackson. It was decided to establish a permanent Baltimore office with a paid official to supervise the association.
W L Hollis Coal Co promotes unloading coal from Lykens Valley Red Ash anthracite nut coal and Pocahontas and Georges Creek coals with prompt delivery throughout the city. Also Rsamburg advertises frozen fish at 10c per pound on Thursday to Saturday.
A meeting of the George Washington Hotel Company stockholders is set for February 22 at 8 p.m. on the third floor of the Farmers and Merchants National Bank Building. Proxies are requested if attendance is not possible. Signed Lewis F. Cooper president.
The roads committee of the House of Delegates voted 8 to 4 to pass by indefinitely Richards bill granting county boards authority to spend the one cent gasoline tax aimed at feeder roads. A similar Senate bill by Senator Woodson, already approved in the Senate, received the same action.
Postmaster General announces Better Mailing Week to boost national postal service. Officials urge patrons to mail earlier, include full return addresses, and ensure proper packaging and sufficient postage. Kern invites public input to improve local service and cooperation.
Coburns Minstrels arrive for a night performance at the Empire Theatre in Winchester. The traveling troupe, featuring Charles Vermont Nate Mulray and Hank White with 35 performers, conducts a street parade and a band concert on Main Street.
Handley High School hosts Chambersburg High School at Handley High Gym. Tipoff 8 PM with admission 25 cents. Local sports note urges fans to feed the birds in town and country.

A large crowd attended the Friendship Fire Company bazar last night with 80 couples on the floor at peak. The Kiwanis Club will attend Friday with a banquet and Major Barton will speak on George Washington. Suppers sold citywide, 75 cents each, with hospital benefiting 25 percent of net receipts.
Mrs Elizabeth J Sherman widow of W S Sherman died at her home near Chambersville this county after a long illness. She was a prominent farmer and real estate owner. Survived by two sons J Clayton and J Strother Sherman and two daughters Mrs Mattie Cooper and Miss Mary Sherman all of the county. Sister of Mrs Ashby Graves Frederick county and Mrs Amos Marker Winchester. Funeral arrangements not completed before tomorrow.
Central North Carolina and southern Virginia slowly emerged from isolation after the heaviest sleet and ice storm in years. The storm caused at least one death and several injuries as utilities worked to repair wires and restore communications. C. G. Crenshaw of Reidsville, an electrician, was killed yesterday by contact with a high voltage line.
England awoke to a broken dock strike deadlock as representatives of workers and employers met at the ministry of labor and reached terms for a conference. If the delegates approve, work will resume immediately. Separate notes mention visits by Mary Gold, R Gray Williams, M Alice Newcome, and Mrs William W Baldwin.

Ralph G and Thomas N Pollard of Frederick county are among heirs challenging Robert Edwards' estate in a Norfolk meeting. The claim covers 65 acres in Manhattan where the New York World building stands and 37 acres on Staten Island. Heirs argue Edwards received the lands from King George II circa 1760 and leased them to John and George Kruger, with title never conferred.
The funeral of Mrs Selina B Good wife of F Dick Good a county supervisor member took place at Shiloh Church after heavy snow delayed transportation from Capon River to Intermont and final services led by Rev W C Long. Pallbearers included her sons Lohr and Leslie Good grandsons Leonard La Follette and Murrell Anderson and sons in law Evan La Follette and H Anderson.
The Cardiff Evangelistic party leads nightly gatherings at 7:45 led by Pastor P. Duborg with stringed instruments and saxophone. All are welcome to hear music, singing, and preaching.

Mrs Emma L Arnold, aged 57, died at her home No 20 BDaat after a lingering illness. She was born and raised in the region and lived most of her life there. The obituary notes her work at Salter and mentions her husband who cared for her in her final days. Interment will be held.

Mrs. William Campbell of Town announces candidacy for delegate to the Democratic National Convention. She aims for the Second West Virginia district seat and has long been active in eastern panhandle politics. Her husband, Senator William Campbell, serves in the West Virginia Senate.
Governor Trinkle gave hearty approval to the State Department of Education six page illustrated bulletin The Flag How to Respect It to be disseminated through Virginia schools. Fourteen copies are to be placed in schools by Superintendent Harris as the effort aims to educate pupils about flag proper display and respect.
