Mrs. Desi Thorpe is described in the report as attempting self harm by ingesting bichloride of mercury in Rockingham County. Emergency responders rushed to the scene as authorities investigated the incident and her condition was updated.
Mrs Gertrude Thorpe of Timberville attempted to kill herself by swallowing bichloride of mercury after a domestic quarrel with husband Harvey Thorpe and interference by his grandparents. She was rushed to Harrisonburg Hospital where her condition was reported slightly improved.
Mrs. Louisa Buchanan Thomas widow of Col. Samuel S. Thomas of Clarke County Virginia died at 7 this morning at her Berryville home after a brief pneumonia illness. She was 64 and survived by daughter Nannie Thomas of the homeplace son Samuel S. Thomas of Charlotte, two sisters Miss Buchanan of Winchester and Mrs. Anna Washington of Washington DC. Funeral arrangements pending with burial in Berryville.
In New York a chimpanzee dressed in evening clothes entered the Knickerbocker Hotel lobby and caused a near panic among women. Police seized the animal and its keeper was later arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct. The chimpanzee reportedly escaped from a Broadway theater.
