The Cottage of Capt Thomas Taylor Byrd and Early Byrd Line
Captain Thomas Taylor Byrd bought 1000 acres in Frederick County now Clarke and built The Cottage near the Old Chapel. He married Mary Armistead in 1786 and lived there the rest of his life before dying in 1821. The Byrd lineage through Richard Evelyn Byrd I traces to Brandon and Westover, with Byrds serving Loyalist duties and as Frederick Parish vestryman. The Cottage burned before 1835 and Byrd was buried in Old Chapel cemetery.
