J Philip Carbaugh of Stephens City served as crew member after joining the Naval forces last summer. The incident occurred aboard a warship on the West Coast resulting in seven fatalities due to a blast of powder.

The U S S Wyoming gunroom blast during maneuvers on San Clemente Island killed seven, including Marine private Sidney Emsley of At Atlas home. Senator Robinson of Arkansas told the Senate that a final settlement of war debts may be achieved within the year. He noted growing debtor-country sentiment toward settling rather than repudiating debts.
Local officers say Joseph Grossman of Philadelphia is at large after allegedly stealing about $2,000 from J Raymond Levi a merchandise merchant. The cash, mostly 50 and 100 dollar bills, was taken from a desk in Levi s apartment on Saturday. Levi knew Grossman from prior insurance dealings and says Grossman later asked to cash a check. Grossman and two accomplices were reported staying at a Winchester hotel before departing by Ford with Pennsylvania plates.

Isaac Jacob Grim died at his home near Refuge Church on Thursday evening after a two week illness. He was born May 5, 1843 and would have been 94. Survived by two daughters Julia Grim and Mrs John Bray and five sons Luther Arthur Ollie Albert Silas. His wife preceded him three years ago. Funeral arrangements likely at Ridings Chapel Sunday.
Police intensified their search for a green truck linked to the week old disappearance of Helen Moyer a 16 year old high school sophomore. A second girl reported being accosted by the truck driver along the highway from Coatesville to Modena with her shoes and books found nearby.
In Talavera de la Reina Spain on February 19 a Canadian and 34 Britons said they came to Spain to work not fight for the Spanish government. Insurgent officers said most were recruited at Communist headquarters in London and employment offices in Liverpool Glasgow and Edinburgh. Those from Glasgow claimed signup at a labor exchange to collect doles.
It was learned this afternoon that the mother of Miss Elizabeth Farrar who resides at Phillis Va is critically ill and Miss Farrar has been called home Mrs Farrar is said to be suffering from a heart ailment having experienced several severe attacks during the last few days Miss Farrar is home demonstration agent in Frederick county.
Waukegan Illinois February reports describe sit-down strikers repelling deputies with acid bolts and wrenches during an attempt to eject them from a Fansteel Metallurgical plant. Six casualties reported as Sheriff Dooling leads 125 officers to enforce a court order. Detroit factories also occupied by stay-in workers demanding wage increases and welfare aid.
Senator Ashurst of Arizona described the Roosevelt court reorganization proposal as the mildest of all possible bills under the circumstances. He spoke after Senate colleague Gillette urged a law to curb invalidation of acts if two justices dissented and opposed expanding the Supreme Court without retirement rules.
Mrs John Brock wife of Deputy Sheriff John Brock thwarted an attempted jail break in Neosho Missouri when three prisoners threatened to kill her husband unless she opened the cell door. She alerted help. the inmates were restrained. The deputy ordered her to stay away and she acted to protect him.
Mrs Agnes Grove Printz aged 48 wife of Gilbert Printz formerly of this city now of Wilkinsburg Pa died Wednesday night at 8 35 in a Pittsburgh hospital after weeks of medical treatment. She was a native of Winchester daughter of the late Cephas F and Josephine McCauley Grove and leaves husband a son Frederick and five daughters Mrs Howard Craver Mrs R L Long Mrs C D Gardner Mildred and Virginia Printz. Funeral from the Davis home 422 North Braddock street at 3 o'clock tomorrow with ministers Rev George W Stover and Rev R A Whitten and interment Mount Hebron Cemetery.
