Richmond reports over 1000 bills drawn or requested for the Virginia Legislature special session. Local and corrective measures fill the list, excluding road, gasoline tax, redistricting, or the office building bill. Senator G Walter Mapp signals 1925 governorship plans as bond issue opposition grows.
Ministers GEO W STOVER and B A CRABILL express gratitude to Winchester pastors and church members for attending and assisting at the recent revival in the United Brethren Church. Bob Nichols of Frederick County pleaded guilty in Circuit Court to possessing ardent spirits in violation of law. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined 50 dollars plus costs. Three gallons of liquor were found on his premises during a sheriff search warrant. Nichols had been released on bond and failed to appear after indictment.
Clarke county teachers will meet at the high school in Berryville Friday at 10 30 with Miss Rachel E Gregg supervisor of teachers training state department of education present to discuss the new course of study. She will also address Frederick county teachers at the county courthouse on Saturday at 10 30 with programs planned by the two counties Teachers Association and talks on educational topics.
Sunday at the United Brethren Church the pastor preached on The Mission of the Visible Church and Its Relation to the Sinner. The pastor baptized and received into the church 25 persons ages 10 to 30, a result of a recent revival paused by flu. A 6:46 program led by Alsen Hott featured an orchestra and short addresses by local figures. Evening sermon focused on Pauls Appeal for Faithfulness.
Charles F. Clark of east of Winchester was fined 10 dollars plus 10.25 costs in county magistrate court for driving an automobile without a 1923 license. He said he bought the car second hand and used 1922 tags as told by the seller. Inspector Elijah Shull of the state automobile department secured the warrant.
Allport Construction Company of Richmond secured a major contract for 7.86 miles of eighteen foot concrete roadway to the North Carolina line. The deal totals 300 419 19 dollars. Mr Allport serves as president of the Virginia Highway Contractors Association.
Frederick county resident J W Fahnestock accepts a key role with Captain C H Jackson in charge of a state convict road force. He will begin duties this week and leaves tomorrow to join the Sterling Virginia camp now operating in Loudoun county.
Lost pocketbook belonging to Rebt. F. Brill was picked up at Union Bank. Reward offered for its return. Inside the book are the name Rebt. Brill and other identifying marks. Respondents should contact Shen or Tk ward for verification.
Mrs. A Virginia Nulton widow of Col Joseph A Nulton former commander of the Second Virginia Regiment and longtime Frederick County Circuit Court clerk died at Winchester Memorial Hospital at 6 pm after bronchial pneumonia at age 79 Her son Rear Admiral Louis McCoy Nulton Navy Yard Philadelphia and daughter Mrs Herbert S Larrick reside in Philadelphia and Winchester Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 8 pm at Braddock Street Church with interment in Mound Hebron Cemetery The family court and local veterans groups express high esteem for her Confederate Memorial work

Several parcels once owned by 8. Donald McFadden of the Commercial and Savings Bank were sold. Arthur Robinson, manager of Snapp's Foundry, bought one site on South Stewart Street and plans a brick residence. On the Monmouth Street block, George Fansler and Alson S. Hott bought lots, while Hott sold another lot to W. O. Zinn of Clearbrook Virginia.
A marriage license was issued in Ellicott City Maryland to John H Riley Jr of Baltimore and Miss Mabel R Ashley daughter of Mr and Mrs F Ashley of Highland Avenue in this city.
Hogue Creek Va February 17. Mr William Clowser of Morgantown W Va has returned home after visiting his parents Mr and Mrs Luther Clowser. J S Orndoff visited his aunt Miss Fannie E Smithey of Brucetown. Mrs William Good of near White Mall returned home after visiting her son in law and daughter. Mrs Laura V Orndoff called home by illness of daughter Miss Nannie Orndoff. Mrs Orndoff nursing near Stephens City and Fawcett Gap for two weeks. Several friends express concern for Mrs J T McIlwee who is ill. Mr John Hall confined to bed. Dr R A Shafer attending. Walter White and John Boxwell much improved after illness. Mr and Mrs Luther M Larrick and Frances, with J S Orndoff, visited uncle and aunt near Ridgeway. Mr and Mrs Scott H White of Winchester visited J S Orndoff’s home. Rev S R Ludwig and Frank Smith of Winchester were dinner guests at Ella Bowman’s. Ludwig also at S T Larrick’s and visited the sick locally.
Edward Neville retired city police veteran dies at 63 at his home 21 East Germain Street after a brief illness. He served 22 years before injury and amputation led to pension, early retirement and a rare city policy precedent. He leaves a widow Marona Gertrude Henry and four children, with funeral planned from his residence at 2 PM Tuesday under Methodist and Baptist ministers. Interment in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Marl Parks of Fuller Brush Company Hartford Conn returned from Washington where he attended a Virginia division banquet of about 25 brush salesmen and officials at the Raleigh Hotel. Speeches were delivered and strong business reports presented with Mr Beveridge of Hartford among the principal speakers.
Advocates for a child labor constitutional amendment won a initial victory as the Senate judiciary committee ordered a favorable report on a resolution to submit the amendment to the states. The AP report notes the move marks the first stage in a broader campaign to enact nationwide reform.
The Study class taught by Rev. Mr. Adey will meet at 3 o clock on Wednesday afternoon at Braddock Street M B Church South to begin the second chapter of the study book. The first lesson last week was found interesting and instructive and the women of the church are urged to attend next Wednesday at three.
Farmers of Clarke and Frederick counties are invited to a massa meeting at 2 o clock next Thursday afternoon February 22 in the Court House at Berryville. The road bond issue will be discussed with urging farmers to attend. Virginia relies on farmers to oppose the proposition.

The 1922 State Agricultural Report shows Frederick County with 22 900 acres of corn yielding 35 bushels per acre and leading Virginia in several crops. Wheat output reached 12 bushels per acre with 21 000 bushels. hay, oats, barley and buckwheat figures are detailed alongside livestock totals and value of farm products. The report notes Frederick’s small area yet high productivity due to soil and intensive cultivation.
Albert Brill and Miss Ritter were married in the parsonage of the United Brethren Church on Avenue I by the Rev I Stover. The bride is 18 and the daughter of Mrs. Frank Ritter. the groom is a worker employed locally.
The middle division relay champions of the Pennsylvania system dominate the Eastern Pennsylvania Railroad Employees meet in Chambersburg on February 24. They previously defeated rivals at Johnstown July 4 and Kennywood Park July 8, with further wins at West View Park September 5 and the Pittsburg police meet September 16. The squad includes standout sprinters from Altoona and Pittsburg and holds the Pennsylvania system record, led by J. Thompson and H. Trout.
