Three Car Wreck Injures Two West of Berryville

A three car accident on Route 7, two miles west of Berryville, injured two men and caused $1700 in damage. Al len Dykes Jr. and Oscar Rutherford were taken to Memorial Hospital, both in satisfactory condition. Police say Dykes rear ended Feagans and then collided with Rutherford head on.

Swedish Embassy Secretary Expelled by Soviet Union

The Soviet Union ousted Swedish Embassy secretary Bertil Hermansson on charges of illegal activities incompatible with his diplomatic status. Stockholm reports say three Soviet officials were expelled from Sweden over the spy case. Sweden protests the move. Pravda claimed Hermansson was detained in January while seeking a Soviet document, admitting attempts via official channels but not identifying himself as a diplomat.

Four Year Sentence for Harlan in Clarke County

Paul Harlan formerly of H. F. Byrd Inc in Berryville was sentenced by Judge Elliott Marshall to four years in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to theft of canned apple products valued over $5,000. A pre sentence investigation was ordered with sentence to be finalized Feb. 15.

NAACP to Produce Fund Records Under Subpoena

The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund said it will comply with a subpoena to produce records before a Virginia legislative committee. Thurgood Marshall announced from New York that the fund would supply information sought, as two other NAACP bodies have not yet decided. Virginia Livestock Value Rises Six Percent

Virginia livestock value stood at 162 million dollars at the start of the year, up six percent from 1956. Gains came from better cattle and hog prices, with cattle numbers steady at 382,000, dairy cattle down one percent, beef cattle up one percent, hogs up four percent to 705,000, and sheep down two percent though value rose over 200,000. Farm chickens reached 6,015,000 and turkeys 319,000 while horses and mules fell nine percent to 107,000.

Housewife Freed From Garbage Disposal in Pacoima

Mrs. Skip Schoen, 34, was freed after eight firefighters dismantled a garbage disposal in her Pacoima kitchen. They drilled, cut, and sawed through parts of the unit to release her wrists after she reached in to fetch a spoon. She suffered swollen wrists as her only injury.

Margaret Truman Expected First Baby Around July
