Severe weekend rainfall floods Clarke County roads and rivers

Heavy rain and melting snow caused widespread flooding near the Shenandoah River and Opequon Creek. River Road in Clarke County saw vehicles stranded as the Shenandoah rose eight feet, while low bridges and culverts flooded. John H. Enders Rescue Squad assisted motorists, with a car occupant said to be stranded near River Road. The river crested late night and was falling today as the area faced icy roads and minor accidents.

Quick Recovery for Franklin Harder After Robbery

U S Air Force airman J C Finley 24 of Fort Worth Texas was abducted from a NATO base near Ankara by three armed leftist extremists. The truck left the base about 3 30 am firing at guards who were unarmed. No contact or trace of the victim or kidnappers after the escape.

Tracks Will Be Restored Today Near Harpers Ferry

A Baltimore and Ohio Railroad official said track repairs after a derailment near Harpers Ferry West Virginia would likely finish by late afternoon. Sixty six of a 102 car freight train left the rails causing rail damage and forcing main line traffic to detour via Hagerstown Maryland. No injuries were reported to railroad personnel.
