Guards Fire On Prisoners At Raiford

About 600 inmates massed on the Raiford State Prison recreation field as guards opened fire with shotguns to stop a fence rush during a hunger strike at the nearby maximum security unit. Twenty prisoners were wounded, 23 injured in the scramble, and 11 hospitalized.

South Vietnamese Drive on Laos Yields Heavy Loot

South Vietnamese forces with U S air support swept North Vietnamese bases and depots along the Ho Chi Minh trail in southern Laos. The operation reported hundreds of tons of munitions fuel clothing and food stocks along with 2000 poultry distributed to troops. 142 enemy killed. Vietnamese losses 7 dead 16 wounded. U S helicopter missions numbered 1100. China warned the move threatened Laos and warned of grave menace.

Six Injured in Winchester Area Road Mishaps Brief

Six people were injured in area highway incidents over 24 hours in Winchester. A three car crash on Loudoun Street caused heavy property damage. one victim was admitted to Winchester Memorial Hospital Pediatrics. William Billy Miller age 7 was struck on Milam Drive. A pedestrian hit at Cameron and Gerrard Streets was treated and released. Another two people were treated after a 6:34 a.m. crash at Loudoun and Boscawen Streets. Further details withheld.

Flash flood warnings issued for Potomac and Rappahannock basins

The National Weather Service in Washington issued flash flood warnings today for small streams in the Potomac and Rappahannock drainage basins in Northern Virginia and central Maryland. The runoff potential is very high due to recent rains and frozen ground.

Snow expected after dense fog and rain this morning

Rioting in Qui Nhon Damages Vehicles and Compounds

Anti-American protests erupt in Qui Nhon with 2 000 to 3 000 demonstrators marching on the U S Support Command compounds.
