Parking Meter Receipts Rise in City. One Lot Lags
The Common Council heard that overall parking meter receipts rose from last year with January totals at 2 696 60 versus 1 829 40 in January 1955 for an increase of 867 40. Fourteen meters were repaired in January while the Loudoun Street Fairfax Lane lot lagged behind the past four weeks. The four week take from 29 meters was 74 35, with 72 50 paid out, leaving 1 85 for future facilities. The plan earmarks 40 percent for new parking facilities and the committee aims to encourage more use of the lot with longer time options such as four hours for 10 cents. Chamber of Commerce and Merchants Association officials spoke at the meeting.
