Moscow reports suggest Khrushchev seeks a summit to launch the Geneva disarmament talks debated by Kennedy and Macmillan remaining home. Secretary Rusk dismissed the proposal but left open the chance heads of government could meet if progress occurs.
Prime Minister Macmillan welcomed the broad spirit of Khrushchev’s letter proposing a summit on disarmament. He told the House of Commons the challenge is to link US and British proposals with the general ideas Khrushchev envisions.
Public reaction marks the first official response to Khrushchev’s idea for an 18 nation disarmament summit. He suggested a meeting with the United States Britain and the Soviet Union sending foreign ministers while keeping talks at the bargaining table until concrete progress is achieved. Kennedy is expected to reply soon, maintain a cautious stance while allowing for a later summit if Geneva shows progress. Dean Rusk urged careful prep for any summit, warning against premature talks that could heighten tension.

The girl lived with an aunt in Washington and finished Creekside School Woodstock.
Robert F. Kennedy met Indonesian President Sukarno at the Merdeka Palace and said the United States has done all it can behind the scenes to promote a peaceful settlement of the West New Guinea dispute. An embassy source noted Kennedy stressed U.S. interest and did not offer concrete solutions. The visit drew only a muted welcome from officials and civil servants.
Snow sleet and rain are forecast for tonight with a transition to rain by Wednesday. Forecasters estimate four to five inches of snow today as Thursday stays cold and likely cloudy. Temperatures climbed to 34 degrees after a low of 7, melting highways, while light winds yesterday left a light snow coating but no major drifts from Sunday night.

Rev W Holt Souder, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, resigns to become rector of St Marys Episcopal Church in Goochland County near Richmond. The move takes effect March 15 with duties starting March 18. Souder came to this parish February 1, 1955 from Richmond and served at St Pauls Church since February 1953. He is a Charlottesville native, Hampden Sydney and UVA graduate, WWII veteran, Virginia Theological Seminary alumnus, and husband of Isabel Coale with three children.

Kenneth S. Shenk took the oath as Commissioner of the Revenue in Clarke County succeeding the late David H. Allen whose term would end December 31 1963. Shenk 42 a Berryville native and Ruritan ex president was appointed in Clarke Circuit Court with oaths also given to deputy clerks Tyson Dortch and William Rhoden Jr. He lives east of Berryville on Route 7 has farmed there for years.
In Richmond AP reports the Virginia House of Delegates passed a bill raising gross truck weight from 56 000 to 70 000 pounds by 90 to 5 and a companion height increase from 12 5 to 13 5 feet by 85 to 4. A separate notice about a trustees sale appears incongruent with the legislative item.
