Banquet speakers and attendees recalled Dr. Roussis as a community pioneer. Win Merchant (Merchant of Win) led tributes at the annual fire company memory event, honoring the physician’s service and local impact.

Three unmasked bandits robbed a clerk at Union Station early today and stole three pouches of registered mail on its way to the post office. Officials said the pouches may have contained mutilated currency or bonds, but the loot’s value was not estimated. Treasury and postal officials pursued uncertain clues as investigators worked to determine contents and motive.
The Times Dispatch reports Charles Broadway Rouss, veteran of the Northern Virginia army, offered 100000 to fund a Confederate Battle Abbey memorial in Richmond. The plan required a matching sum, leading to the Confederate Memorial Association’s charter and eventual site selection in 1910 with Virginia legislative land gifts.
More than 250 men gathered in Rouss Hall for the Charley Rouss Fire Company banquet on the anniversary of Charles Broadway Rouss birth. Burr Ham spoke on crime, detailing its rise over the past decade in local and national spheres. D Edward Stultz and Andrew Bell will attend the Capital District meeting in Lynchburg.
Mrs. Tillie Forney widow of Stewart Forney died at her Brunswick Maryland home after several weeks of illness. She was about 69 born in Martinsburg West Virginia formerly Langhammer. Her husband a Baltimore and Ohio locomotive engineer was killed in a train accident about 20 years ago. Survived by son Edgar of Brunswick and sister Mrs Katherine Forney of Winchester. Funeral at 1 pm Saturday at home then Martinsburg for interment. She was a Reformed Church member.
The Interstate Commerce Commission fixed valuations today for three eastern systems including the Western Maryland. The Western Maryland valuation as of June 1919 stood at 72,019,000, versus a book investment of 122,143,000 and capitalization of 133,000,000. Valuations may be contested by carriers before final acceptance.

Mrs. Annie Pifer Brill of Star Tannery Frederick County widow of Luther Brill died at Memorial Hospital after a weeks illness from meningitis entering Feb 5. She leaves three sisters and a brother. Last rites set at 1 30 pm Friday at Lebanon Shenandoah county with burial at Mount Hebron Cemetery beside her husband. Pallbearers listed.

A fire at Attorney Joseph F. Sourek’s home in Akron Ohio trapped two children Elizabeth Mae 16 and Joseph Francis G in a bedroom. The blaze started with kerosene igniting and left the father mother and another child hospitalized. Other residents named Aubrey Baylis and Mrs C M Plowman are involved.

Rev Dr G Morris Smith president of Susquehanna University will speak. He is a son of the late Rev Dr and Mrs Luther L Smith of Strasburg and will stay with his uncle J Few Brown.
