A terse dispatch reports French forces ready to strike decisively against German targets amid rising tensions. Analysts note the move signals heightened risk of a broader conflict as episodes of saber rattling intensify between Paris and Berlin.
Report that a French tank rushed to Heine after a claim of a general strike or planned boycott extension to Essen London. Berlin advices do not substantiate the claim. Several French soldiers reportedly wounded. two killed in clash with Germans, but details remain unconfirmed.
Berlin reports say three policemen clashed with French troops at Gelsenkirchen with one German and two French officers wounded and hospitalized. London dispatch says two French soldiers and one German were killed in the same incident when German soldiers halted a motor car carrying French troops.
William Hope was shot dead during a spectacular raid by seven masked men at the Eagles Club in Charleroi Pennsylvania. The robbers, dressed in black robes and hoods, stole cash and jewelry valued around 5000 dollars and escaped after disabling telephones and fleeing by automobile.

In Dublin on February 12, Dr Thomas O Higgins of Maryborough, father of Kevin O Higgins the Free State minister, was shot dead after he disarmed a raider at his home. A second incident reports renewed fighting near Arigna in Cavan and the arrest of Mary Mac Swiney and Mrs Clark with their mother in Dublin in a raid on republican offices.
In Derry Pa on February 12 a general strike by 8000 anthracite workers from Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company halted operations in Panther Creek valley. The walkout follows a grievance by platform men at No 8 collery seeking extra help not approved. The company ships about 14000 tons daily.
