Saigon Forces Cross Into Laos In An Attempt To Cut Ho Chi Minh Trail
Thousands of South Vietnamese troops crossed into Laos aided by U S helicopters and armor in a bid to disrupt the North Vietnamese supply lines. U S command reported several helicopters shot down though many crews were rescued. Premier Souvanna Phouma protested while Thieu framed the operation as limited and tactical only. About 20,000 Saigon troops had massed along the border ahead of the move.
