Western Union delivered the money by wire and a money order, and she asked to hold the check until morning. The winner, one of 17 million listed numbers, said she had no prior knowledge of the prize.

Winchester to Organize Volunteer Home Service Company

Pennsy Cars Are Derailed Near Clearbrook Station
Two cars of southbound Pennsylvania train No. 691 derailed about 10:10 a.m. north of Clearbrook. Cause under investigation by Pennsylvania officials. One coal car and one feed car left the rails. Engineer Davey Kirk and Conductor John G. Smith of Hagerstown guided the remainder to Winchester, arriving 10:45 a.m., 25 minutes late. Tracks were torn only briefly and repairs were planned to allow the northbound to depart at 4 p.m.

Plane Wreck Guarded As Probe Starts In Nevada
A crash near Lovelock Nevada killed eight aboard a new four motor Army bomber. The crew included Capt R S Freeman and First Lt E W Ketchum among others. The plane was en route from Sacramento to Wright Field Ohio when it crashed on a mountain 12 miles southwest of Lovelock.
