Shenandoah Valley Academy opened with a 40 to 4 lead at halftime and dominated Woodstock Athletic Club, winning 69 to 11. Captain Peyton scored 24 points in the first half as SA A used reserves after the break.
John Myers of Shawnee district was appointed by Judge Frank B. Whiting in the Fredericks County Circuit Court to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Joseph W. Bowles. Myers will serve until January 1, 1920.
An early night fire alarm was triggered by a burning chimney at Mrs. McCauley’s West Pall Mall home. Fire crews arrived promptly but were not required as the chimney blaze was contained. high winds prompted precautionary standby.
In the Corporation Court of Winchester attorney Robert T. Barton is appointed guardian of minor Miss Eulalia R. Savage age above 15. He has posted bond for 16000 dollars and succeeds his father as guardian. Miss Savage is daughter of Ralph Savage.
Sheriff Pannett received a letter from Dr. William F. Drewery of Central State Hospital Petersburg announcing the death of Charles Booker on February 2. Booker, admitted February 14, 1876, from Frederick county, spent nearly forty seven years in the institution.
The Maryland Court of Appeals at Annapolis invalidated Baltimore City ordinance requiring property owners to pay for cement sidewalk work. The Johns Hopkins Club Building Company challenged the city, with Judge Stockridge authoring the opinion, ruling the city cannot collect $287.39 it paid for sidewalk laying in front of the club property.
Fire alarm sounded around noon yesterday after a spark from Dr. R. C. Glass’s home on South Washington Street. Fire units arrived to find the blaze already out. the awning was destroyed.
Spot wheat quoted at 1 883 4 dollars and corn at 1 12 dollars. Winchester dealers offered 1 70 for wheat after the Baltimore market close this afternoon.
Mrs. Anderson wife of Dr. Charles R. Anderson Winchester physician who underwent surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital Baltimore continues to improve and gain strength. Reports say the operation was successful and she is well on the road to recovery as of this morning.

A smallpox outbreak is reported in Millville center Jefferson county West Virginia in the limestone region. Postmaster Hoke fell ill several days ago and the county Board of Health has closed his store and office with mail none as a precaution while authorities strive to stamp out the disease.
The Charley Rouss Fire Company plans its 23rd annual birthday banquet for Charles Broad way Rouss at their West Water street hall next Monday at 8 o clock. Speakers include Dr B M Roszel and guests from Virginia and West Virginia with an expected turnout of out of town visitors and the heir Peter Winchester Rouss among those invited.
A Berlin Telegraph report says General Carranza sent best wishes to the Kaiser by wireless from Queretaro Mexico. No Mexican wireless plant is known to reach the German coast station.
Berlin born captain Frank Helter of the Saxonia and Captain J Wohlers of the Steinstek, plus twelve German officials and sailors, were arrested in Seattle for destroying Saxonia engines while interned in Eagle Harbor. They are detained under the federal alien entry statute. The District Nurses' Association will meet tomorrow at 4 PM in the City Hall council chamber.
The Circuit Court of Frederick County opens a case to determine ownership of a 1674 Jacobus Steiner violin valued between one thousand and four thousand dollars. Plaintiff George H. Hooff of Jefferson County West Virginia contends the instrument, loaned to a friend, remains in his family. defendant Ernest B. Kitchen of Frederick County Virginia denies the claim. The trial before Judge Frank B. Whiting features both sides’ attorneys and a jury.
Harness shop Solenberger & Co announces closing the repair line. All harnesses left for repair must be picked up by May 10.

Cornwell will arrange special railroad service to bring his 84 year old mother Mrs Mary B Cornwell to Charleston for his March fifth inauguration.
