Ten Burned To Death In Army Quilt Plant Fire
Fire swept through a New Haven plant killing at least ten employees in a department making fluffed cotton for army quilts. Lord Lloyd 61 British colonial secretary and House of Lords leader died after three weeks of illness including severe chills. Dr G G Snarr Elected To Handley Board And Radio Station Talks
Winchester council last night elected Dr G G Snarr to the Handley Board of Trustees to fill the vacancy created by Burr P Harrison removal. The meeting also passed a bicycle licensing ordinance and referred a proposal for a Winchester radio station franchise to the Ordinance Committee. Council granted Elwood Smith a filling station permit at Kerr and Berryville avenues and ordered delinquent tax lists published March 1 with property sales 30 days after. A protest over dangerous sidewalks on Rouss avenue and North Piccadilly street was received. The council discussed a Federal Communications Commission permit request for a 1370 kilocycle station at 250 watts and planned steps to support the grant.
