A driver attempting surrender escapes and speeds away at Injun Falls, triggering a chase that ends with the vehicle leaving the road and a perilous hill descent on Yeste. No injuries reported. Local authorities pursue further details.
An overturned truck carrying dynamite slid over a fifty to sixty foot embankment near Finers Hill on the Valley Pike. The driver and a passenger escaped unharmed despite the perilous fall. Dynamite did not explode and only two front wheels were broken. Police could not identify the driver who fled the scene. The car remains at the embankment foot.
Major world and national items include the arms conference plenary call to close negotiations in Washington, Kentucky guards to protect Newport rolling mill, rising flu deaths in New York, Senate debt re funding moves, and violent mine and police incidents across the United States.
Winchester policemen were issued new Metropolitan style uniforms by order of the Common Council. The navy blue garments include extra trousers and are provided by S. H. Hable after bidding by four firms. The Hable firm has supplied Winchester police uniforms since 1872 with rare exceptions.
The next big feature by exclusive arrangement opens Monday February 7 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Watch Star for inside ad. The production cost was three coins of a million dollars with a large circus and management team involved.

At a monthly meeting Rev. Robert B. Nelson of Christ Church was elected unanimously to lead the Friendship Fire Company. He presented a high chair to Amory Keyser, the smallest member, who could not reach the floor in a regular chair. Keyser offered brief protest but accepted the gesture with emotion as Chaplain Nelson spoke. The group also planned to attend comrade Charles Jones’s funeral tomorrow at two o'clock, naming a resolutions and floral committee.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Louis Laman Slome colored aged 14 son of William T Slome of Clarke county who died of appendicitis in Memorial hospital on Tuesday He leaves his parents two brothers and three sisters.
Less than fifty tickets go on sale next week for the 28th annual Charley Rouss Fire Company banquet to be held Saturday night February 11 at the fire hall. Preferring members and invited guests, the committee will offer remaining seats to the public at Hable's store.

Funeral services for the late Charles Jones who died early yesterday at the home of Mr. Harry Seabright will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock from his home on South Main Street. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Frank Alexander one of the Knickerbocker Theater victims recounts two hours buried under concrete and steel before Navy Commander Dick Byrd of Winchester freed him with a hack saw. Alexander and John Crissinger escaped with minor injuries. a third friend died. Byrd volunteered, risking collapse, to reach the men and pull them free.

William Keating and his daughter Nan travel to Harrisonburg Virginia for the funeral of Mrs Emma Reilly wife of Patrick Reilly a well known local resident. Mrs Reilly had been ill with pneumonia and died on Wednesday.
