Bodyguard Amos Cooper Dies at Niece’s Home
Amos Cooper a Civil War bodyguard and courier for Gen. Robert E. Lee died at 7 last evening at his niece Miss Ethel Cooper’s home in Boyce Clarke County in his eighty third year. He had been bedbound for two years and his death was due to general tissue wear. He was born in Capon Springs West Virginia and raised on his father’s farm. He enlisted young in the Confederate Army in the thirty ninth battalion serving Lee. He later ran the Dagaro Cooper nursery in Richmond and married Aramipa Ramey, who preceded him in death. A lifelong Presbyterian, he contributed much to church work before retiring and living with his niece.

Mrs. Martha Dick Everhart aged 89 died at her daughter Mary Shugart’s home in Berryville Clarke County from old age infirmities. She was a Presbyterian for years and survived by two children Mary Shugart and W L Myerly Green Spring W Va. Her funeral was at the Presbyterian Church at 3 30 p m officiated by Rev L F Harper with interment in Green Hill Cemetery.
