Sheep Indemnity Fund Urged For Virginia

BLACKSBURG. Dec. 27. Dr. J. L. Maxton, Agricultural Extension Service specialist, urged a state wide sheep indemnity fund similar to the Harrisonburg program to aid breeders against losses from dogs and other perils. He noted current schemes pay poorly or late, leaving many producers un reimbursed and warned declining Virginia flocks despite good market prices. He argued higher sheep numbers would diversify farms, reduce risk, improve pastures, and better use labor and waste lands.
