Allied reports detail a new air drop and continued relief push to the encircled Bastogne garrison as German advances toward the Meuse and Brussels are checked. American forces report slow, costly progress while RAF and American air power strike enemy targets across occupied Belgium and northern France.
Allied forces pressed toward Bastogne as light armored teams moved to Celles and Ciney to reach the Meuse. Christmas Day fighting slowed German advances while U S armor and infantry engaged in sharp battles on both flanks of a 20 mile gap between Hotton and Bastogne. German gains remained limited with Von Rundstedt holding a cautious line.
