Aaron Hackney Boxwell 76, last surviving of eleven children, died at his home on East Water street after strokes of paralysis. A Confederate veteran born in Frederick County April 17, 1840, he lived in Winchester for over 25 years and leaves a widow and nine children. Funeral arrangements set for Thursday at 2 PM with services by Rev. W T Walters and Rev. George W Stover. Burial in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Monster Bear Shot After Long Bear Hunt Near Wardensville West Virginia
In Wardensville West Virginia on December 26 a party led by John F Keckler and H W Baughman tracked a monster bear in the mountains south of town. The bear waited in a rock den before being shot by multiple hunters with pistols and Winchester rifles nine shots fired. Dynamite and sledges opened the rock ledge to recover the 420 pound animal described as the largest killed nearby in years.
