X Rays From 20 Million Volt Rheotron Breaks Power Records
Scientists at General Electric Research Laboratory in Schenectady announce 20 million volt electrons accelerated by the rheotron reach speeds near 186000 miles per second and produce X rays more powerful than the world supply of radium. The device speeds electrons through a quarter cycle, enabling extreme energies and continual acceleration within a small orbit. Dr. Donald W. Kerst leads the project and hints at future machines reaching 100 million volts.
