Frederick County faces a rising dog damage bill from roaming packs killing sheep and turkeys. The Dog Fund, funded by dog tag sales, may go into the red if claims grow, prompting talk of a stronger dog law modeled on Pennsylvania’s.
Centenary Reformed Church holds a Christmas Eve service starting at 11 p.m. and ending at midnight with adoration of the nativity, responsories, antiphons, and carols. The Children’s Christmas program follows at 6 p.m. featuring recitations and songs. Offerings go to the Hoffman Orphanage. Public invited.

James L Willey 77 longtime Middletown resident and former Baltimore and Ohio railroad worker died yesterday afternoon at his home. Funeral services tomorrow at 2 30 p m at his home with Rev W P Saunders and Rev Fred B Wyand officiating. Burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Survived by wife Mary Elizabeth Maidl three children Elizabeth Margaret Jane Earl one sister and four brothers.
The Christian Endeavor Society of the United Brethren Church presents a two act Christmas play Going Home For Christmas at 7 30 Monday evening with a cast including Granny Holly Mary Hollister and Jason Hollister directed by George Jones. A 20 minute musical program precedes an offering directed to support Quincy Orphanage in Quincey Pa. Public invited.

LEIPZIG Germany December 23 Marinus van der Lubbe a Dutch mason was sentenced to death for setting the Reichstag blaze last February The four other defendants were acquitted Ernst Torgler and three Bulgarian refugees George Dimitroff Blagoi Popoff and Wassil Tanef f faced treason charges but were cleared Dimitroff defended himself and derided the proceedings while Lubbe maintained he acted alone.
Samuel Insull former American utilities operator filed an appeal with the supreme state council against Greece ruling he must leave the country by January 31. He had been served notice that no further extension to his police residence permit would be granted though prior extensions had been issued. The United States has not indicated its next move regarding possible extradition over charges tied to his collapsed utilities holdings.

Philadelphia December report: William Schultze, 34, milk dealer, arrested in an extortion scheme targeting Lessing J. Rosenwald merchant and philanthropist and chair of Sears Roebuck. Schultze confessed after detectives found similar writing paper and claimed intent to raise 30000 to fund a pasteurization plant and repay. He allegedly approached an officer while imitating Rosenwald.
