Panamanian authorities report a brief late night assault in Colon by alleged followers of former President Arias. Four killed and one wounded. police units and guards responded, and the situation was declared under control with limited gunfire near the Presidencia.
The Knights Templar of Winchester Commandery No 12 will meet at City Hall asylum on Christmas Day at 11 45 a m for their annual Christmas Observance. Eminent Commander J Lee Miller will lead the program and Rev Robert A Whitten will deliver the Christmas message.
Government controls on use of newsprint to be lifted December 31 with remaining inventory rules. The civilian production administration estimates about 1,935,000 tons will be available to U S publishers in the first half of 1946, about 98 percent of 1941 supply.

E. Blackburn Moore of Winchester Frederick and Clarke says he opposes a proposed raise from 20 to 1200 dollars for state legislators. He notes the report was not drawn by the Advisory Council, and calls for raising salaries of full time state employees first. Moore, a long time member and leader in the House of Delegates, begins his seventh term next month.
Columbus Ohio December report says Joe E. Brown the actor fired a carbine at two Japanese soldiers during a 1944 Luzon deployment while with the 37th Division. Beightler notes Brown claimed the credit and received a Japanese flag from the unit.
William Joyce known as Lord Haw Haw will be executed at Wandsworth prison on January 3 after the House of Lords refused his appeal of a high treason death sentence. He was convicted of broadcasting Nazi propaganda from Germany during World War II.

Virginia reimposed a two percent gross receipts tax on out of state motor carriers effective January 1 triggering retaliation by North Carolina and Ohio. North Carolina demands contracts or six percent tax. Ohio imposes public utility fees on Virginia truckers as of December 15. Fourteen thousand more CIO United Steelworkers approved a strike to enforce a $2 day wage demand. In 145 plants across 15 states, ballots were tallied yesterday with 14,287 in favor and 2,993 against based on incomplete National Labor Relations Board returns.
