Mrs. Mona R. Royal, 68, died at Winchester hospital shortly after an accident at her home. She fell 16 steps in darkness, crushing her skull and breaking nine ribs. Coaches Derailed At 70 mph Remain Erect in Line
The westbound City of San Francisco derailed five miles west of Lakeside Utah in a snowstorm. Of 15 cars, 13 left the rails and drove a half mile across the desert but all stayed upright and in a straight line. 240 passengers were not seriously hurt as the diesel unit and two baggage cars stayed on track. An automatic safety device applied brakes to all cars to keep them in line.
