Richmond AP reports State Senator Harry F. Byrd Jr. of Winchester will not seek the Democratic nomination for governor in 1961. He says he cannot ask Virginians to allow father and son to hold the governor and U.S. Senate seats simultaneously but pledges continued service to the state.
President elect John F Kennedy met AFL CIO leader George Meany at his Georgetown home as part of a busy round of cabinet talks. Kennedy also planned discussions with Ralph Bradley and Rep Harold Cooley about Agriculture while hints pointed to possible picks for defense or treasury.
The Winchester Association for the Blind announced Christmas trees will be sold at the Coca Cola plant on Valley Ave. The load arrived today and was delayed two days by snow. Garland Brown, Boyce Fire Chief, led his crew to a chimney fire on Springsbury Road near the Shenandoah River last night.
