Lieutenant Ford Killed in France During World War I
Second Lieutenant Benjamin Pierson Ford of Company L, 352nd Infantry, attached to the 88th Division, was killed by an enemy head grenade in France on October 28. He had written October 26 of fighting but surviving, and his death came two days after that letter. He was 23, son of Edwin and Mrs. Ford of East Orange New Jersey, and had worked with his grandfather George Shepard at the Winchester Inn. He served from private to lieutenant, studied at officers training school, and was a noted church singer. His family resides largely in East Orange, and he was related to several local residents including Clarence Shepard and Mrs. Harry D. Albin.
