Pay Board Chief Boldt flexes authority to set policy
Washington AP report says Pay Board chairman George Boldt angrily asserted leadership at a three day meeting. He warned he would decide policy versus application and focus on major policy questions. The panel, aimed at labor management issues, heard criticism amid calls to account for large retroactive pay raises and contracts. Boldt, 67, a U.S. District Judge from Washington state, began as a member with a gavel and later abstained on pivotal votes.
