Estimates by the Virginia Railway Association indicate about 25 000 railroad employees in Virginia would participate in the $300 000 000 wage boost settlement of the threatened railway strike. In 1939 Virginia railroads paid $52 588 000 to 30 755 employees including officials of the board. The association reports expansion since then, paralleling the national 10 percent increase.
