Maryland lawmakers move quickly on a liquor sale bill as the assembly rushes action on Sunday. Federal authorities implement measures to guard states maintaining dry status, shaping regional commerce and policy.
Richmond reports Virginia will remain dry until the Legislature convenes in January and enacts liquor control law after the October vote to abolish prohibition. It may be months before liquor is legalized in the state.
Maryland Comptroller William Gordy announces licenses for 21 classifications will be printed and distributed as soon as law permits. Forms are ready, with six hours’ printing time and messengers available. Local officials will issue licenses under state inspectors for enforcement.

R Gray Williams spoke at the Winchester Lodge No. 867 memorial service in Capitol Theatre at 3 pm. Mrs. G E A Reinberg sang, with Andrew Bell directing and Harry W. Butler presiding. The service honored four departed Elks and Rev Dr Frank T. McFaden with wreaths, music, and eulogies.
The December meeting of the Junior Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital will be held at 3 30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the nurses home in West Clifford street. Members are urged to note the date change advanced a week due to the Christmas season.

J William Affleck 73 a Frederick county farmer died at his home 222 South Cameron street after a two weeks illness of paralysis He had recently recovered from an appendectomy in Memorial Hospital and then suffered a stroke His funeral from South Cameron street on Wednesday at 3 pm will be conducted by Rev Dr Hubert Sydenstricker with interment in Mount Hebron Cemetery He is survived by his widow Mrs Emma V Ferguson daughter Louise A Benner one stepson Howard B Ferguson and several relatives including Vance B Affleck and others
The 20 year old Edna Morris was found dead in woods five miles from Princess Anne by two Black men. An autopsy will determine if murder occurred. Father Edward Morris said she had not returned Friday night and the family was not overly worried. The body was sent to an undertaker for examination.
Miss Lucille Morris of Greenwood Indiana was named the nation’s best economically dressed Four-H Club girl at the national congress connected with the International Live Stock Exposition in Chicago. She made her cotton school dress and accessories for 7 dollars 91 cents.
Frank Meadows alias Frank Meadore, once praised as a professional golfer by local friends, forged checks in Clarke county and at the George Washington Hotel. He was sentenced to 20 years in the Ohio penitentiary and the Zanesville warrant will be held for his release.
Mark H. Armel 63 died at his home in Bunker Hill West Virginia after living there since 1910. A farmer and former rural free delivery carrier, he is survived by his widow three sons and three daughters with services set for Wednesday at the Methodist Church Bunker Hill and interment at Payne's Chapel cemetery near Ridgeway.
Dr. Alice L. Wynekoop remained too ill in the county jail to appear for arraignment on her indictment for the murder of Rheta. Chief Justice Philip L. Sullivan assigned the case to Judge Joseph B. David as the judge retires to a federal post. The prisoner's weakness prevented entry of a plea or setting a trial date.
Emma Susan Campbell 76 widow of Charles R. Campbell died at her Middletown home Sunday morning after a period of decline She was a longtime member of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church South and active in its women groups Sunday School and church work Born January 8 1857 she lived in Middletown all her life She married Charles R Campbell January 31 1883 and two sons survive Funeral services were held at her home with Rev W P Saunders in charge Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery Pallbearers namedlocal church and family members

Trenary 63 a Winchester native and long time Cumberland resident died Saturday in Allegany Hospital Cumberland after a brief pneumonia illness He had worked 35 years with express companies and was in charge of the money order division He is survived by daughter Helen and son Webster of Cumberland and brother Samuel W Trenary Funeral services were held in Cumberland with interment in the Cumberland cemetery
In New York on December 4 the stock market moved in slow motion with no notable gains. The dollar spurted in foreign exchange as the gold rate stayed flat, with Sterling slipping about 14 cents and French francs down over 13 of a cent before moderating. Equity trading was exceptionally dull for the year. Sterling opened at $5.12 and Call money stood at three quarters of a percent.
About 1,900 miners at Lehigh Navigation Coal Company were turned back from Tamaqua and Greenwood mines as unscheduled workers picketed. The action followed ongoing demands that began last August and reflected broader labor unrest without discrimination.
