President Hoover asks Congress to fast track federal construction over six months with an emergency $150,000,000 appropriation while seed and feed loans for farmers await congressional decision. He warns of a $180,000,000 deficit for 1932 and urges rigid economy to avoid tax increases.
Clinton Whitacre admitted in Circuit Court of Frederick County to possession of a still from a 1928 indictment. He was fined 50 dollars plus costs and given a six month jail term suspended on good behavior. A 1000 dollar bond was set and prohibition laws must be obeyed. Sheriff Pannett located Whitacre in York Pennsylvania and brought him back to face the historic charges.
The murder case against Blanton Orndorff and his sons is delayed as key witnesses George Pingley and Chester Hockman recover from injuries. Bail and funeral attendance are discussed as investigations await their return. Woodrow Orndorff, injured in a gun accident, was treated and returned to jail. Shenandoah Stages of Harrisonburg operates a third Valley bus service joining Washington and Knoxville Tennessee with head office in Harrisonburg. The 12 new de luxe buses cost about 140000 dollars and include retlining chairs and hydraulic four wheel brakes. Plans include two daily rounds Washington to Knoxville and three rounds Winchester to Chambersburg with brief rests at multiple towns.
Holy Name Society members renew the Holy Name pledge at 7 30 this evening in the Church of the Sacred Heart. Father E A Brosnan of Norfolk conducts a triduum for the Holy Name Society and Sacred Heart League. Promoters named by Father R E Hannon include Joseph Sullivan Paul Massey and Miss Virginia Rehill. Holy Name men go to communion on the second Sunday and Sacred Heart League members on the first Friday. Tonight’s services conclude the triduum.
Eleanor Follmer 22 of Baltimore and her fiancé John M Braun also of Baltimore were killed when their car collided with another vehicle on Washington Boulevard near Laurel Maryland. Both victims died instantly from neck injuries. Mrs Mabel Harris and her daughter Miss Gladys Harris were in the second car. Friends in Winchester learn of Mr Frederick W Follmer of Baltimore.
Mrs J M Keith Miller flying from Havana to New York was blown off course by a fierce gale and landed on Kemp's Bay Andros Island. She walked sixteen miles to the telegraph, feet blistered, saying she was exhausted but grateful to have landed safely.
