A marked rise in Christmas purchases is anticipated as Winchester banks distribute about 100000 in Christmas Savings Club checks with interest to an estimated 3500 members. Checks begin today and run to early next week, fueling local shopping and employment as merchants stock a wide range of merchandise for the season.
Deni UnAPIER Fort Loudoun Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution marks ten years since its organization with a 3:30 to 6:30 meeting at Fort Loudoun home of Mrs. Katherine Glass Greene. W Warren Barbour former Rumson mayor and wealthy thread manufacturer was named by Governor Morgan F Larson to fill the late Dwight W Morrows U S Senate seat from New Jersey. Barbour 43 a Republican was amateur heavyweight boxing champion. he began public life in Rumson 1922 and became mayor in 1923 serving until 1929.

Secretary of War Hurley has purchased the 1200 acre Belmont Plantation near Leesburg Virginia. The foreclosed estate formerly owned by Edward B McLean will be remodeled and used as a weekend retreat.

Gaither a well known clergyman of the Baltimore Conference Methodist Episcopal Church South at his home in Clarendon Virginia He had served as pastor at several churches in the conference including Stephens City and Brucetown Winchester district The funeral is set for 2 PM Wednesday at Andrews Chapel near Falls Church VA Friends to meet at his Clarendon home at 1 PM
Greenwood School two and a half miles southeast of Winchester reports a 100 percent dental record with 25 pupils enrolled and all necessary dental corrections completed. Dr. Parrot certified the last slip on November 23. The Community League under Mrs. Anita Lanahan now funds dental work for families unable to pay. The school also notes 100 percent Junior Red Cross membership and each child maintains a better foods score as part of 4-H Club work. Names of the Greenwood pupils are listed.
The will of James M. Lamp, dated August 1919 and witnessed by H. P. Kerns and J. E. Mason, has been admitted to probate in Martinsburg. The estate, to his widow Amanda D. Lamp for life, will be shared among seven children, with daughters paying $25 to a son from a former wife. Upon the widow’s death the seven children share equally, the daughters again paying $25 to the named son. Eldridge D. Lamp is named executor and has qualified.

County officers search for four young men after four men shot and killed three tame turkeys belonging to Mr Mellon Adams near Gainesboro. Adams overheard one claim three kills and another one turkey. One turkey found with two rifle wounds.
